Task 1 Report: Museum Visitors

Question: The table above shows the numbers of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished. The pie charts show the result of surveys asking visitors who satisfied they were with their visit, during the same two periods. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Band 8+ Sample Answer:

(Intro & Overview) The table provides figures for the number of people visiting Ashdown Museum in the year before and after renovations took place, while the two pie charts detail the levels of visitor satisfaction during the same two periods. Overall, it is clear that there was a significant increase in annual visitor numbers, and it is also noticeable that the museum was received more favourably after the refurbishment was complete.

(Detail 1) Looking at the table in more detail, about 74 000 people visited the museum in the final 12 months of its original condition. This jumped by around 25% to 92,000 visitors in the year following the improvements. With regards to visitor satisfaction, prior to the refurbishments taking place, exactly half of the visitors who were surveyed responded by indicating they were satisfied (40%) or very satisfied (10%), whereas 45% were dissatisfied (30%), or very dissatisfied (15%). The remaining 5% were unresponsive.

(Detail 2) However, after the renovations were finished, survey results show that although the numbers of people who were satisfied remained at 40%, while the figure for very satisfied visitors rose sharply to 35%. Similarly the number of people who did not enjoy their trip to the newly updated museum declined to 15%, whereas the number of people who were very dissatisfied dropped to a mere 5%. As before 5% of those surveyed did not give responses. (225 words).
